The sermon addresses life’s uncertainty and how believers can find victory over the unpredictability of life. While life is uncertain for all, regardless of righteousness, the preacher aims to empower the congregation to become victors over uncertainty, not victims.
Uncertainty often ‘blind-sides’ without warning, as shown through real examples of sudden deaths. However, people err in trying to “master” the un-masterable rather than accepting uncertainties, as with Elimelech fleeing to Moab or Lot choosing Sodom, seeking certainty yet facing worse outcomes.
The key to overcoming uncertainty Is focusing not on life’s uncertainty but on divinely certain truths. Four things provide certainty in any situation:
- God’s immutable Word, which accomplishes all
- God’s divine love, shown through Christ’s sacrifice
- God’s Eternal kingdom
- God’s sovereign power
Rather than stress over uncertainties, believers can face life empowered by fixing their gaze on God’s unchanging character, promises, and sovereignty. Like Ruth embracing God’s faithfulness or Daniel trusting his power, true faith sees beyond changing fortunes to the unchanging qualities of the Almighty.
Through focusing on the certain – God’s love, Word, kingdom, and power rather than life’s uncertainty, Christians gain abounding grace to overcome.
